When is the best time of year to visit?

The generally agreed answer this is during spring (late March to May) and autumn (September to November). The Temperature is warmer by spring, with averages of 6°C-15°C.

During these months, around Loch Lomond & the Trossachs the weather will be the warmest, the days significantly longer, and sunshine most abundant. Although we cannot guarentee it will remain dry!

Winter months are suprisingly good times to visit too as the areas is quieter and often with crisp clear days.

Do you have midgies?

For the first time visitor this might seem like a strange question, but critical when making plans.  The Scottish Midge is infamous.  It is said that they have can reduce grown men to tears. Midges are a type of tiny insect found in practically every environment on earth. They are most abundant, late spring or early summer, (as day length and temperature increase) and they will die off as the summer comes to an end.

Volumes have been written on how to protect yourself.  Most popular is Smidge a popular repellent designed to effectively block the antennal receptors of biting insects – which throws the midge off your scent. It also stops you tasting so good.

Do I have to reserve a table?

During the summer and busy periods such as weekends and bank holidays we recommend all guests and non residents to book a table in advance.

Relying on local produce, we aim to offer delicious and imaginative dishes that change to reflect the freshest of the seasons ingredients. The restaurant holds an award of two AA rosettes and the Thistle Award for Best Eating Experience in the West of Scotland. In addition, we are happy to try and accommodate most dietary requirements with a little warning, and have two menus to choose from.

Do you have a family room?

Knockderry House has 15 rooms of different shapes and sizes and all are configured for double occupancy.  Babies and children under 5 can share a room with their parent or guardian for free, and we can provide cots and bedding for a small cost. However, we do not have any multiple occupancy rooms.  This is due to the floor space being unsuitable for fold out beds, which could create difficulty in evacuating the room in a hurry.

Which rooms have the best views?

This is probably the most commonly asked question.

Of the Master Rooms the best views are rooms 1 and 2, both of which have large windows looking out over the gardens and the loch beyond. Our King Rooms in the newer wing are all front facing but Rooms 8 and 9 command the best views. Finally the Library Suite at the top of the house commands the best view of all, looking both north and south over the loch and the Arrochar Alps beyond.

Do you have broadband?

We have recently had fibre installed into the hotel and are therefore able to offer a reasonably reliable broadband service with download speeds in excess of 50Mb and an upload speed of around 22 Mb.

Wifi is free to use in the hotel with a password which is available on check in.
