After a wonderful 2016 where we were delighted to continue providing our guests with exceptionally high standards of food and service, we are looking forward to a great 2017. If you are looking for a reason to come and visit, here is a taste of some of the events in and around Knockderry this late Winter and Spring:
On the 14th of January the RSPB Sunrise Goose Walk will take place. Thousands of geese spend the winter months feeding and roosting around the Loch Lomond area, at the RSPB team will be embarking on an early morning woodland walk around some of their favourite roosting spots. If you’re lucky you might spot some of the other winter wildlife this beautiful area has to offer. Please wrap up warm and wear suitable clothing and footwear – it may be advisable to bring binoculars and torches.
The fantastic monthly Loch Lomond Farmers’ Markets returns on the 15th of January, with any and every kind of fresh and local produce available on the stalls. The produce is dependent on seasonal availability, but you will find fresh cheese, home-baked breads and cakes, seasonal vegetables, chutneys and oils, freshly baked pies, fresh meats and fabulous smoked fish. The market runs from 10am-4pm, but it’s best to arrive early to avoid missing out on stock.
Our special events at Knockderry have been a sensational hit this past season, and we are delighted to bring them back in 2017. Our first event is our Burns Night Supper, celebrating Scotland’s most famous Poet. In traditional style, the evening will start off with a wee dram, the toast to the haggis, and a piper will feature to celebrate the life and legacy of Robert Burns. The cost is £35 per person, and booking is essential.
If you are a thrill seeker in life, then the IISA Great Britain Ice Swimming Championship might just be to your fancy! Being held on the 11th of February, the swimming events will be an open water course in Loch Lomond, with an Ice Gala including shorter distances and relay events. Although the event is now full, you can have your name added to the waiting list, or you may just wish to attend as a spectator.
Valentines Day is an important date in the calendar for all romantics and as Knockderry House is the current Scottish Hotel Awards Romantic Hotel of the Year 2016, there can be no where better to celebrate this iconic date. We have a Valentines Break and a Valentines Dinner on the 11th, 12th and 14th February which includes a 3 course meal to include a glass of fizz and some petit fours.
April is going to be an important month for food here at Knockderry, with some delectable produce coming back into season. On the very first two days of the month is the Scottish Food & Drink Festival, on the shores of Loch Lomond. A jam-packed weekend, there’ll be copious amounts of food, bouncy castles and face painting for the kids, wild food and drink walks, cookery demonstrations running all through both days, and even some cooking activities for the children to join in on.
The 28th April marks the return of our Wine Lovers’ Dinner Night – where great food meets excellent wine. Food and wine are two integral parts of any stay at Knockderry, and one of the most important reasons why many of our customers tell us they return time after time. The menu will take its inspiration from Spring flavours, with fresh and local seasonal produce being exhibited on the menu. The wines for the night will be specially selected by Inverarity Morton, who will also provide tasting notes throughout the dinner. Expect a night of fun and games, and the chance to expand your knowledge about wines. Please check our website here for pricing and offers.
This only covers some of the fantastic things that will be happening at Knockderry and the surrounding area in 2017 and we look forward to welcoming you all!
