Recreation - Sailing

Loch Long with its natural anchorages and stunning views is perfectly situated between Loch Lomond National Park to the east, the Arrochar Alps to the north, and the Firth of Clyde to the south and west.

We are the ideal base for a wide variety of holidays. Knockderry House is situated on the shores of Loch Long and particularly welcomes sailors. We are conveniently located at the mouth of Loch Long and have established 5 moorings (free to guests) each rated at 15 tonnes, in front of the hotel for convenient stopping off. Consider taking a sail up Loch Long or sail to nearby islands such as Bute, Arran or the Cumbraes, or head north to Tarbert, Oban or the white sandy inlets of the north west coast through the Crinan Canal.

From north to south the west of Scotland measures around 260 miles as the crow flies, but the total stretch of coastline is well over 2000 miles. This tattered coast, with its many inlets, islands and long snaking sea lochs, has always held special appeal for sailors, demonstrated by the the host of long-standing and still flourishing yacht and sailing clubs, regattas and sailing events, and the vast numbers of sailors who come every year to enjoy the ambience and the sport. The Firth of Clyde and the contiguous sea lochs (where you will find us) offer this same brilliant sailing within easy reach of the city and superb marine facilities.
